How to add DFS Replica

To provide fault-tolerance for Distributed File System, you may want to create Root replica that duplicates an existing DFS root. The DFS root can be hosted on a member server or on a domain controller.

To add a new Dfs root replica please follow these steps:

  1. Start the Distributed File System from Administrative Tools.
  2. Right click on the root you wish to add a replica to and select ‘New Root Replica’
  3. You may display a DC or member server with DFS running and click Browse to select the server that will host a copy of the Dfs root. Click Next

  1. If this the first time to create the DFS Root, you may select “Create a new share”. Click Finish

  1. Click OK to finish the settings.

Note: You can actually see the Dfs information using the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in, select Advanced Features view, System, Dfs.
