Windows SBS 2008 IPv6 Considerations

1. SBS 2008 is designed to fully support IPv6 and has IPv6 enabled by default. Please don't disable IPv6 on windows SBS 2008. If you do, you may experience some issues.

2. How to Properly Disable IPv6
However, for some reason or test purpose,  if you must disable IPv6 on SBS 2008,  please follow these steps:

Click StartCollapse this imageExpand this image, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit.exe in the Programs list.
In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\
Double-click DisabledComponents to modify the DisabledComponents entry.

Note If the DisabledComponents entry is unavailable, you must create it. To do this, follow these steps:
In the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Type DisabledComponents, and then press ENTER.
Double-click DisabledComponents.
Type any one of the following values to configure the IPv6 protocol, and then click OK:
Type 0 to enable all IPv6 components.

Note The value "0" is the default setting.
Type 0xffffffff to disable all IPv6 components, except the IPv6 loopback interface. This value also configures Windows Vista to use Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) instead of IPv6 in prefix policies.
Type 0x20 to use IPv4 instead of IPv6 in prefix policies.
Type 0x10 to disable native IPv6 interfaces.
Type 0x01 to disable all tunnel IPv6 interfaces.
Type 0x11 to disable all IPv6 interfaces except for the IPv6 loopback interface.
Notes
Using a value other than 0x0 or 0x20 will cause the Routing and Remote Access service to fail after this change goes into effect.
You must restart your computer for these changes to take effect.

3. During Windows SBS 2008 installation, a static Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) address is automatically configured on the server. Because many applications are programmed to use IPv4, Windows SBS 2008 runs IPv4 and IPv6 on the same network, either wired or wireless. Windows SBS 2008 also configures DHCP and DNS for IPv6. For the server to use IPv6 to reach the Internet, Windows SBS 2008 is expecting that a stateless, auto-configured IPv6 router connects your local network to the Internet. You can disable IPv6, if you prefer.
