How to add a printer using Windows Standard TCP/IP port

To add and share a networking printer to your network, you may have many options. This article describes how to add and share a HP printer attached to a XP computer by using Windows Standard TCP/IP port.

1. Go to Start>Printers and Faxes (Picture).
    
2. Click Add a printer on the left panel.
    
3. Click Next on the Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard.
    
4. Check Local printer attached to this computer only (Note: don’t check Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer). Click Next (Picture).
    
5. Check create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port from type of port (Picture).
    
6. Type Printer name or IP Address. That will create a TCP/IP port based on the name or IP (Picture).
    
7. Select Device type in Additional Port Information Required screen (Picture).
    
8. Follow the instruction to setup the printer driver, printer name and share name.
