Considerations of setup DHCP on WAN or additional subnets

1.       For DHCP service to support WAN or additional subnets on your network, you must first determine whether the routers used to connect adjoining subnets can support relaying of BOOTP and DHCP messages.

2.       If the router doesn’t support DHCP and BOOTP relay, you may need to setup the DHCP Relay Agent running on a computer running Windows NT® Server 4.0, Windows 2000 Server, or a Windows Server 2003.

3.       It is a good idea to setup a DHCP on each subnet, especially if you have slower WAN links or dial-up links.
