Introducing Five Ways to Restore VMs Using Altaro Hyper-V Backup  - Step by step with screenshots 

 

Altaro Hyper-V Backup offers many ways to restore VMs or File Level Restore as described below.

1. Restore Overwrite that restores a VM to its original location and will retain the same name, configuration and IP address. To do that, click Restore VMs on Dashboard. Select the backup version. Check Restore VM to original location. Click Restore Select VMs to start the restoration.

 


2. Restore as Clone that restores VM backup to a new location and will be given a new name, perhaps a new IP address. To restore as clone, click Restore VMs on Dashboard. Select the backup version. Check Restore VM to a location where si different from the original location. Click Restore select VMs to start the restoring.


3. Restore to a different Hyper-V Server that restores VM backup to different  Hyper-V host. The VM will be restored to a new location on the new host and will be given a new name, perhaps a different IP address. To restore a VM to a different Hyper-V host, click Restore VMs on Dashboard. Click Restore from a Different Backup. In Select a Different Backup Location, selelct the backup location. Then run the restoration.

4. Sandbox Restore that performs test restores of your backed up Hyper-V Guest VMs. To run sandbox restore, Click Sandbox Restore in Advanced Restore Options.  In the Sandbox Restore Settings, select location to for saving restored VHD or AVHD files.

In the Sandbox Restore Schedule, reelect VM, and schedule. Or click Perform a Sand Restore Now to start the restore to start the restore.

 5. File Level Restore that restores individual files and folders from any Guest VM backup. To run file level Restore, click File level Restore in Granular Restore.  

Select Backup Version. Select Temporary Restore Location. Click Prepare selected for File Level Restore.
