Migrate from Exchange 2007 to Office 365 Procedure step by step

We are running Exchange 2007 on Windows 2003 AD. This is the procedure of migrating from our Exchange 2007 to Office 365.

1. Run Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer to check our Outlook Autodiscover and Outlook Connectivity. Referred articles:

2. Download and Install and run the Office 365 IdFix tool. Referred articles

3. Create the Office 365 tenant. You can create a trial at http://www.office365.com.

4. Configure domain in Office 365 and add DNS record on your external DNS manger. Refer to this page for error DNS issue:

5. Fixed File Replication and raised Domain function level. Please refer to How to raise the domain functional level - HowToNetworking.com

6. Downloaded and install ADFS v2 on one of domain member server.. Installing and configuring the DirSync tool on ADFS server to activate DirSync for our Office 365 tenant and Set up AD FS and Enabling Single Sign-On to the NEW Office 365.

7. Also, if users will be connecting from outside your company’s network, you must deploy an AD FS 2.0 proxy

10. Run AD FS Management. Sign-in at the Windows Azure Management Portal with the login credentials used when activating your FREE Subscription in Step 1 above.

11. Make sure AD DirSync works.

12. Migrate some test mailboxes. Please refer to this page: How to migrate mailbox to Office 365 using CSV file- Step by step with screenshots

13. Convert on-premise mailbox to MEU by following this page: How to convert on-premises mailboxes to Mail-Enabled Users  - Step by step with screenshots

14. Verify the MEU populated by following this page: How to verify Office 365 MEU properties are populated with the correct information - Step by step with screenshots

15. Verify the mailbox has been migrated successfuly.

16. Assign the Office license to the user

17. Test the migrated mailboxes. Make sure the ADFS Proxy server is working.  Make sure the Outlook Anywhere is working.
